Personality-wise, the anime Pikachu is actually fond of battle, and quite good at it while expressing a preference for orange juice and ketchup over Detective Pikachu's preferred coffee and tea. The promotional materials have shown that while Detective Pikachu can still communicate with other Pokemon, the only human that understands him is Tim, for unknown reasons. This incarnation of Pikachu has difficulty using his electric powers to their full potential, remembering only a past with the father of human protagonist Tim Goodman, and wearing his old hat. ![]() In the newly released second trailer for Detective Pikachu, the Ryan Reynolds-voiced title character explains he suffers from a "heavy case of amnesia." With a mysterious past that suggests experience battling Pokemon Red/ Blue-era opponents, the big question isn't what happened to Pikachu's former partner, ace private eye Harry Goodman, but whether this is the same pocket monster adopted and trained by Ash Ketchum in the popular anime series. ![]()
